My amazing oils team has designated March our designated 'Natural Beauty Month,' so I wanted to share this simple recipe for a daily facial moisturizer, with the option to include natural SPF! I like to make a version with some sun protection to use during the summer months when the sun is strong and we spend a great deal of time outside. You can accomplish this naturally by adding carrot seed oil. Carrot seed oil has a lab rating of 38-40 SPF, and coconut oil is 6-8 SPF.
1/4 cup solid organic coconut oil
2T raw organic shea butter
1/2 tsp vitamin E oil
4 drops geranium essential oil
4 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops carrot seed essential oil (optional, for SPF)
Mix coconut oil, shea butter & vitamin E oil together in a ceramic bowl. Add in essential oils and stir well to combine. Store in a glass jar and use daily!
Other great oils for skin that would be great to add or substitute: elemi, frankincense, myrrh, cedarwood, melaleuca (tea tree). I like to make a morning moisturizer with carrot seed, lavender & geranium oils and a nightly moisturizer with just coconut oil or rose ointment, frank or elemi essential oil and tea tree or cedarwood.
Alternatively, you can use the Young Living Rose Ointment as a base instead of coconut oil and shea butter. We love this stuff for so many things and keep it on hand at all times. I also love to mix a couple drops of lavender oil with the rose ointment and rub onto my feet before bed. It's super nourishing to the skin, and I get the amazing benefits of lavender for relaxing and calming at the end of the day.
