Fruit + Herb Infused Water

One of my favorite ways to spruce up my water and increase my water consumption is to make infused water blends with fresh fruits, herbs, cucumbers and essential oils. Our goal should be to drink half our body weight in ounces of water everyday, and during the summer months this is especially important. I find that having a little flavor in my water helps me consume more and keeps things interesting. I use a mix of citrus fruits, strawberries, cucumber, and fresh herbs like mint and basil in different proportions. And while you don't really need a recipe per se, here are some of my favorite combinations:

Rosemary + Grapefruit:
1/2 a grapefruit, sliced
1 drop grapefruit essential oil
a very small sprig of rosemary
32oz of cold water 
I like to place a mixture of grapefruit slices with the rind and grapefruit pieces with no rind into the water. Also, just a little bit of rosemary goes a long way! I typically remove the rosemary sprig after a few hours so that it doesn't overpower the flavor of the grapefruit. *This recipe is also great with a drop of lime oil!

Orange + Blueberry + Basil:
4-5 orange slices
12 or so blueberries, sliced or gently smushed to break the skin
4 basil leaves
1-2 drops orange or citrus fresh essential oil 
32oz cold water

Blackberry + Mint: 
5-6 blackberries, sliced in half or muddles
8-10 sweet mint leaves
1 drop citrus fresh essential oil
32oz cold water
The citrus fresh oil blend contains lemon, orange, mandarin orange, tangerine and spearmint in just the right proportions and is one of my favorite oils to add to water!

Cucumber + Strawberry + Grapefruit:
6-8 slices of cucumber (I like the seedless ones)
3-4 small strawberries, sliced
1-2 drops grapefruit essential oil
1 drop lime essential oil
32oz cold water

Watermelon + Cilantro:
4-5 chunks of watermelon
4-6 cilantro leaves
1 drop lime essential oil
32oz cold water
*This is also great with mango instead of watermelon!

Pineapple + Thyme:
4-5 large chunks of pineapple
4-5 sprigs of fresh thyme
1 drop lime essential oil
32oz cold water 

A few tidbits:
+ I find that the waters taste best when left to chill overnight, but even just a few hours will suffice!
+ If we make multiple jars to last all week, I take out the citrus peels as they may impart some bitterness to the water. If you find that the citrus waters are too bitter, remove the rind from some of the slices. 
+ Using too much of a strong herb like rosemary will often leave the water with an overpowering taste. Try using less or removing the herb after just a few hours.
